Sola is situated north in the Jæren region, by Hafrsfjord.
The municipality has borders towards Klepp in South, Sandnes in East, and Stavanger in East and North. Towards the West is the North Sea that has created basics for life for a numerous of generations. Sola is rich on traces from early settlements, from the Stone Age through to the Bronze Age, to the Viking Age and up until today. Rich graves and several traces of large farms tell the story of a time of greatness all the way back to the Bronze Age. Historic names from the Viking Age are Harold the fair-haired and Erling Skjalgsson, both known figures in Norwegian history.
